Reid Bandeen is a contemporary impressionist landscape painter
who began his creative explorations at an early age, where his
middle school instructors bought his first paintings. He pursued
studies in fine art at the University of New Mexico, the New
Mexico Art League and via workshops and mentorships with
various contemporary master painters. Painting professionally
since 2011, he exhibits in private galleries; local, regional and
national shows and competitions.
Reid says: “To me reality is a feeling, and the true test of my
painting is to ignite the feeling of awe and mystery I have expe-
rienced from a scene in the viewer. Conveying this sense of
feeling in a painting is my ultimate goal.”
Carolyn Berry has been passionate about teaching and making art
for over 25 years. As a public school teacher, she has been named
Kansas Art Education Association Outstanding Art Educator of the
Year and has taught workshops for the Kansas City Art Institute
Continuing Education, the Nelson Atkins Museum, Arrowmont
School of Arts & Crafts, the New Mexico Art League and various art
centers. She maintains a studio and exhibits in the Albuquerque,
NM area.
Carolyn says: “Growing up on the prairie, I have seen so many
places disappear. By embedding images, collage papers, found
objects or dried materials in encaustic wax, I am striving to evoke a
memory that triggers a sense of time and place and what remains.”
Placitas photographer Mary Lee Dereske creates images of nature,
travel, and life. She developed her photographic skills through
independent study, master workshops and college level classes. Her
work has shown at several juried shows in New Mexico and Wash-
ington state. Dereske sells her artwork through her website,
allowing her to reach a national and international audience. She has
authored several photobooks. A MIchigan native, Dereske has called
Placitas home for more than 25 years.
Mary says: “I am creating gilded photo artwork using imitation and
fine metals. Much like in a darkroom, the process involves a physi-
cal interaction to bring my image to brilliant life. A lustrous and 3D
quality emerges with each image. Gilding is magical.”
P.K. Williams’ first career was in teaching, but in 2010 she and
her husband relocated to Albuquerque, where she began walk-
ing a different path. In 2012 she entered her first exhibition and
has gone on to win various local and regional awards. P.K. now
lives in Placitas and works out of her home studio. See her work
at pkwfineart.com.
PK says: “In my art practice, I use mixed media to explore vari-
ous themes, often inspired by nature, which motivate a personal
connection or sense of wonder. Experimentation and intuition
are the process drivers which compel my audience to take
another look.”
Lisbeth Moores is a contemporary Santeria. She creates her art
with found items and a bit of humor. She believes there is spiri-
tuality in everything and that everything is connected. The bits
and pieces that are found in her art have been held, perhaps
treasured by someone else. Her art expresses her seeking of
meaning and purpose as well as her connectedness to the
moment, the past, to nature, and to the significant and the
sacred in all things.
Lisbeth says: “I am a mixed media sculptor and painter living in
Santa Fe New Mexico. My inspiration comes from sacred art and
the beauty I find in worn and rusted artifacts. Using found items
in my pieces allows these elements to gain new life.”
