Internationally acknowledged as one of the leading violinists of his generation, Mark Kaplan has played with nearly every major American and European orchestra and performs around the world as a soloist and chamber musician. This is his third Placitas appearance. His repertoire stretches from the baroque to the present day with performances of concertos by Mark Neikrug, Elliott Carter, and John Adams. His recitals regularly include works by Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, and Schubert.
He regularly performs with the Kaplan Weiss Stumpf Trio and in duo recitals with pianist Yael Weiss. His extensive discography includes the complete Bach Sonatas and Partitas, which has been recently released to strong praise for his “extraordinary Lyricism”, and recordings of the second Bartok and the second Dohnanyi violin concertos. The Kaplan Weiss Stumpf Trio released a recording of the entire Beethoven Piano Trio cycle. He plays the 1685 Marquis Stradivarius.
David Kaplan, pianist, has been called “excellent and adventur- ous” by The New York Times and praised by The Boston Globe for “grace and fire at the keyboard.” His New Dances of the League of David, a recital including Schumann’s Davidsbȕndlertȁnze and six- teen works by modern composers, was cited among the “Best Classical Performances of 2015 by The New York Times. He bal- ances solo performances with chamber music collaborations at chamber music festivals and series including Seattle Chamber Music, Bard, and Mostly Mozart Festivals as well as the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. He has recorded for Naxos and Marquis Records. His mentors have included Anton Kuerti, Richard Goode, and Emanuel Ax. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Piano at UCLA. He is a Yamaha/Bösendorfer Artist.
