Wei Luo - Solo Piano Sponsored by - Dianna and John Shomaker, Firestone Family Foundation
Wei Luo is recognized as one of the most significant pianists of her gen- eration, performing on many of the world’s leading stages. In 2019 her debut album was released on Uni- versal Music Group’s Gold Label and featured in Gramophone Magazine as one of the most exciting new releases. The San Diego Tribune said, “…this recording reveals a daz- zling artist with an astonishing range of colors at her disposal.” Born in Shenzhen, China, Luo began piano lessons at age five and gave her debut recital in Hong Kong at age six. Winner of numerous compe- titions in China, Luo also claimed first prize in the Chopin Interna- tional Competition for Young Artists and the Rachmaninov International Piano Competition for Young Artists. At age 13, Luo was accepted to the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music where she is currently pursu- ing her bachelor’s degree. Luo is a recipient of the Gilmore Young Artist Award and was also awarded a Career Grant from Salon de Virtuosi, based in New York.
In past seasons Luo made her recital debut in Herbst Hall presented by San Francisco Perfor- mances. She performed at Festival Napa Valley and the Mostly Mozart Festival, and she continued her love of chamber music at the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival. This past year Luo gave a 13-concert recital tour throughout China’s major cities.
