    Dennie York

After a 24 year career in the computer industry, Dennie York discovered woodworking, specifically the scroll-saw, and a new career as a woodcrafter. Her work has progressed from small useful items to more intricate and 3 dimensional work including crosses, boxes, flowers and miniatures. Each piece is created one at at time using only beautiful domestic and exotic hardwoods. The pieces really need to be seen and touched to appreciate the exquisite brilliant color and grain of the wood and how it is incorporated into each particular design. Inspired by the culture and landscape of the southwest, her designs are  expressed as art and truly crafted from the heart.

You can see more of her work at Home at the Range II,  Weems Art Gallery in Old Town, and The Enchanted Southwest Gallery. Or click here to visit her website.  Dennie also shows at the New Mexico Arts and Crafts Fair, Weems Artfest and Christmas at Clearlight.

York says:

"It has been very exciting the past few years learning what can be done with wood and a scroll-saw.  Each piece starts with a beautiful piece of wood, selecting the color, the grain to compliment the design. Since I don’t paint, the woods are the palette.  Many people think the work is made with a laser or computerized cutter, which I take as a compliment, although each piece is cut by hand one at a time."
