        Roberta Wellems

Roberta Wellems is an award winning artist, who continues to paint and experiment with all media into her somewhat tarnished “golden years”. In the years between earning a B.S. degree in Applied Art from Montana State University and an M.A. in Art Education from the University of New Mexico, she was a stay-at-home Mom involved with the activities of six children. She taught briefly at Sunset Mesa School in Albuquerque and some substitute teaching at Queen of Heaven School, also in Albuquerque. She has been in several local galleries and was a long-time member of Amapola Gallery in Old Town Albuquerque, NM. Her work has been shown in the Holy Cross Art Auction in Chicago; The National League of American Pen Women; and the NM State Fair Exhibit. She now shows at the Fuller Art Lodge and contributes annually to certain fund raisers in Chicago, Illinois and Longmont, Colorado.  Her only teaching these days are with her children and grandchildren.

"The past sixty years have been an experience of learning how to paint. New materials, new methods, changes in techniques, all have to be tried. Sometimes, I fail but sometimes such exploration leads me to a deeper and better understanding of the abstract fundamentals of all art. Then, I think, I have a successful painting whether it is a watercolor, acrylic, oil or mixed media and I think the joy of it shows in my work."
