        Vicki Van Vynckt

As a nature lover, Vicki Van Vynckt captures on canvas the beauty we see around us. Her favorite subjects to paint in oil are skyscapes and landscapes. She uses fresh, impressionistic color to draw the viewer into her paintings. Van Vynckt  has been painting in oils for over 25 years. She earned a degree in Fine Art from the University of Southern Indiana and studied Plein-air painting for eight years under the guidance of CeCeile Hartleib, a master artist and teacher in Minnesota. She also taught painting lessons for four years before moving in 2004 to New Mexico, where she continues to paint the inspirations of land and sky around her.

Van Vynckt  is currently being represented by Gabriel Gallery in Santa Fe and Conley Studio Pottery in Madrid, NM.       Visit her website

ŠVicki Van Vynckt-All rights reserved

"When I paint skyscapes: I usually paint in a first layer of general color in acrylics and then paint one to two final layers of oils over that. This gives the paintings depth of color and value. I use many mop brushes for softening and blending the wet paint together. I work from photographs that I take of the sunsets I see from my home in Placitas as well as from other locations in the Southwest.

When I paint landscapes: I usually will paint a small landscape on location, using the techniques the Impressionists used, and then bring it home to add the final touches to it.

If the landscape is a larger one, I will work from photos or paint a larger version of one of the small P1cm-air paintings. Painting outside is often preferable, as the color is more fresh because of the natural lighting."
