Born in Amsterdam, Holland---Adriana Scassellati came as a teenager to America with her family and they settled in the Northern suburbs of Chicago. Scassellati has always been interested in art and the use of colors displayed in various media. The opportunity to study and time to create finally came when she retired to Placitas with her husband. A friend introduced her to pastels and Scassellati joined Debra Christensen’s pastel class and is still a member. She is also an active member of The Pastel Society of New Mexico. She is drawn to this medium for the color variations, the ease of application and the different materials and methods that are available. “This has opened up a whole new avenue for me and an appreciation of the arts that I had not known before”.
