"The discovery that a book doesn't always have to be a stack of papers bound between two boards was incredibly liberating! A book can take any shape or form I can conceive of and be made of any material that suits my fancy. It may contain words, imagery, or a combination of the two. It may incorporate sculpture and motion, as in a pop-up book. Or it may function as a sculptural metaphor in itself and have no "content" at all. Whatever form my artist books take, they always in some way incorporate the cultural concept of book." |
