    Renée Brainard Gentz

 

Renée Brainard Gentz does fabric constructions and collages.  She graduated from San Jose State University, with a degree in Art. She raised her family in seven different states as her husband pursued his career in veterinary medicine. When her youngest child entered kindergarten in 1994, she was able to start making art again.  Brainard Gentz has exhibited all over the United States, and received various awards. Her work has been in many juried and invitational shows such as "Elements" in Cary, NC; the Los Ranchos Village Hall;  The Society of Layerist in Multi Media National Conference; the NM State Fair and the NM Arts & Crafts Fair.  Her awards include First place in Multi Media at the NM State Fair show  and at the NM Arts and Craft Fair.Her work is in private, corporate and public collections.

Brainard Gentz says:

"I dye and paint all my fabric, working with cotton and silk. The fabric is cut apart and then reassembled by piecing and appliqué techniques. I often use repetitive patterns so that the colors become the focus. Quilting adds texture and another layer of color to the work. I use multitudes of long, dangling threads to add yet another layer of color encounters."
