A native New Mexican who for several years lived in a wet and dreary climate, Nina Adkins has been deeply influenced by the colors and mountains of the Southwest for as long as she can remember. Adkins says she loves the way water media colors sing on the page or board on which she happens to be painting. She loves the luminosity and transparency that water media afford, more than any other. "I sincerely hope that my love for New Mexico and the Southwest is evident in my paintings." She began watercolor painting to express her more creative side in 1986. Adkins loves color and the Southwest and it is evident in her perception of familiar surroundings. She has studied with many nationally known artists and obtained Signature Member status of the New Mexico Watercolor Society in 1995. Her work was again shown at the New Mexico Arts & Craft Fair in 2009. Adkins has been on the New Mexico Arts and Crafts Fair Board for 2 years and will be the Standards Director for the 2010 Fair. Her paintings hang in private collections in the United States and abroad. She is represented at the Yucca Gallery at 2061/2 San Felipe NW, Albuquerque, NM 87104 and theNob Hill Gallery at 7400 Montgomery Blvd NE, Suite 19-Mossman Center, Albuquerque, NM 87109 or visit her own website. |

Adkins says: "My artistic technique is in the midst of change. I began painting with watercolor, and that was my only medium for many years because I love the luminosity that watercolor can give. The last few years, I have been experimenting with acrylics and collage because of the intense color and texture it brings to my paintings. I have always been a “Colorist” and my paintings are usually filled with bright intense color. I can no longer call myself strictly a watercolorist as more of my paintings have a mixture of watermedia, collage, found items, beads and stones. I hope you can see what a good time I am having in my work and hope it appeals to you." |
